HMIC inspected every police force in England and Wales in the area of Neighbourhood Policing and Developing Citizen Focus.

HMIC concluded that many of the benefits of neighbourhood policing have been delivered through the efforts of police forces and authorities over the last few years. However the inspection identified areas for improvement in every force. HMIC will continue to work with forces and key stakeholders to ensure that these opportunities are taken.

With regards to developing a citizen focus culture, the strategy is in its early stages and the Police Service is still in the process of reinventing local policing.
