Policing Pledge
In July 2008 the Home Secretary published the Green Paper “From the neighbourhood to the national: policing our communities together”. This paper introduced the Policing Pledge. The Pledge lists 10 basic standards which the police promise to deliver to the public in England and Wales, and reflects the desire of police forces to connect more successfully with the needs of their communities.
HMIC was asked to observe and report on Policing Pledge delivery throughout the country. We carried out scoping work for the inspection and published an early findings report and the National Strategic Overview.
Then from April to August 2009 we visited all 43 forces in order to carry out this inspection.
In spring 2010, HMIC revisited nine forces to check on their progress in delivering the Policing Pledge. The resulting reports are shown below, and marked as ‘revisits’.
