Area profile

  • Lincolnshire is a large, rural county in the East Midlands with a population of approximately two-thirds of a million. Lincoln, the only city, is a popular tourist destination and hosts a university.
  • Most of the county comprises market towns and small villages. The coastal towns, especially Skegness, enjoy an influx of visitors during the summer months.
  • Lincolnshire is a changing county, with growing migrant communities; it is recognised as one of the fastest growing communities in the East Midlands. The proportion of elderly residents remains above the national average.
  • A poor road network makes travelling around the county difficult; there are no motorways and relatively few dual carriageways. Public transport is limited outside the main population areas, although Grantham has good rail connections to London.
  • The force is an active contributor to various regional initiatives, notably the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, which targets serious and organised crime.

Lincolnshire is made up of 3 local policing areas:
South Lincolnshire, West Lincolnshire & East Lincolnshire.

Working with Community Safety Partners

Keeping communities safe is not just a job for the police. Local councils, probation, health and other public bodies also have big parts to play and it is vital that forces work with these partners to tackle crime and disorder together. These local partnerships have been independently assessed to find out how well communities are being served, if more action is needed, and what the future prospect of improvement is.
